Hobbit Faith

Bilbo Baggins, little as he is, has to face the mighty Smaug in the dragon’s creepy lair.  Bilbo?!  That short, fat hobbit? This is a job for the mighty and strong isn’t it?

AND his only defense?  A magic ring that makes him disappear, and his little dagger.

We have dragons of our own to face; habits, fears, and relationships that are just too strong for us. We try to defeat them, but…  we’re just too “short and fat” to win.

BUT, we too have  defenses and weapons that are just the right size to not only confront, but to slay our dragons.

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” 2 Corinthians 10:4

When we disappear, Someone else fights the battle for us: “…hide me in the shadow of Your wings from the wicked who assail me, from the mortal enemies that surround me.”  Psalm 17:8-9

And our “dagger” is a mighty sword: “…the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” Ephesians 6:17b

“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”  Hebrews 4:12

Do you have dragons to slay?  Feeling small?  Never fear, “little ones to Him belong.  They are weak, BUT He is strong”!

Smaug is a made-up dragon.  Wanna read about a real-life one?   Job 41  “His snorting throws out flashes light…Firebrands stream from his mouth; sparks of fire shoot out…”
