Great Lines from Movies: Avatar

In his book, You Were Born for This Bruce Wilkinson tells the story of a Christian business woman, named Lauren, staying at a hotel for a 2-week business trip.

Each day Lauren made a point to say a warm hello to the tiny, Hispanic woman she’d see cleaning about the hotel. Her name was Marta, and her tiny face would light up when Lauren greeted her by name.

On the last day, as Lauren packed up her things for the return trip home, her gaze rested on the beautiful flowers her husband had sent her.  She should give those to Marta, she thought.

The author calls that “a nudge”, and says the Holy Spirit nudges all the time to do nice things for people.

So, Vanessa listened to the “nudge” and presented the flowers to Marta:

“These are for you, ” she told her, holding out the flowers. “God wants you to have them.” Marta gasped…”You don’t understand why this means so much to me, ” she said, her eyes filling with tears. “No one ever notices me. They don’t even say hello. The past two weeks I’ve looked forward to coming to work because I know you see me. And now you show me that God sees me, too.”

This little story reminds me of something in the movie, Avatar. The tall, blue, cat-eyed natives, the Na’vi, would greet each other by saying, “I see you.”

Which reminds me of something I read this morning on the web.  I read that women fear they’ll become “invisible” as they age.  They fear that as their looks fade that they themselves will fade into the background of society.

People will stop “seeing” them. (link for article below)

Ever felt that way?

I have, and, coincidentally, especially as I age!

Well, fortunately for us, there’s always going to be someone who notices us. The same Someone who notices cleaning ladies, and sparrows, will keep an eye on us, too.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.  And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”  ~~ Matthew 10:29-31

“Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young– a place near your altar, O Lord Almighty, my King and my God.” ~~ Psalm 84:3

Let’s Pray: Father in Heaven, You are El Roi, the God Who Sees.  You see me.  Oh, may I “see” you, too.  May I pay attention to you.  May I also see what you see, hear what you hear, every day, all around me, in the faces and places I visit.

May I pay attention to your “nudges” to write, call, smile, listen, or serve people.  In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Do you have a personal relationship with the God who sees you and loves you?  Click the pic below for a quick introduction.

  1. Thank you for sharing the story of Lauren and Marta. I will look for the Marta’s that God puts in my path. Very nice reminder to share Christ’s compassion.
Jude 1:22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
