For Christ’s Sake…

“For Christ’s sake…”

“Get a job, for Christ’s sake!”  “For Christ’s sake, stop making that racket!”  “What do you think you’re doing, for Christ’s sake?!”

“For Christ’s sake” is a popular exclamation when things go wrong, especially in the movies.

It’s said a lot in the Bible, too, especially by the Apostle Paul, but for different reasons…

Paul asked the Romans to pray for him, for Christ’s sake:

“Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in [your] prayers to God for me…” (Romans 15:29)

And, Paul told the Philippians that, for Christ’s sake, he considered worldly achievements to be nothing:

“But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ “ (Philippians 3:8)

And, then, Paul reminds the Ephesians that we are forgiven, for Christ’s sake, and so we ought to forgive each other:

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:32)

There are many other Biblical examples of living, loving, and forgiving for Christ’s sake.

So, get out there, and do some of that for Christ’s sake!

Let’s pray! Oh, Father, for our sake you died on the Cross so that we should no longer live for ourselves, but for your sake. (2 Corinthians 5:15)  May my thoughts and words honor you. (Psalm 19:14) May I live, love, forgive for your sake.  In Jesus’ name, Amen!
